Born in 1984, Hong Kong. Jan Curious fell in love with drawing, after his mother drew him an elephant on a piece of paper when he was 5 years-old. His family moved to Singapore when he was 6 years-old. Influenced by a merge of cultures in Singapore, he was intrigued to learn about different heritages and religions of different races.
6 years later, Jan's family moved back to Hong Kong. With everyone speaking the same language, he quickly adapted to this British colony. He witnessed Hong Kong returning to China and the emotions that was brought to every ordinary person. In some of his works, he expresses his views publicly about social and political issues.
In 2002, Jan began his study of Graphic Design and Illustration at Northbrook College in UK. The study of art history and theories of design brought him to another dimension of possibilities.
In 2005, he returned to Hong Kong and started his career as a freelance designer. At the same time, he became the front-man of Chochukmo, which has been described as “the most charismatic band to have emerged in southern China in recent years” by TIME Magazine. With the influence of his music and artwork, his objective is to encourage the new generation to create. He has also participated in art projects crossover with different brands such as Volkswagen, Converse and Fossil etc.
Jan's series of works illustrates his path as an artist. His works are personal but at the same time reflecting the reality.
